The Journalist to Journalist Project of the National Press Foundation and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) will offer a J2J programme at the 42nd Union World Conference on Lung Health in Lille, France. The J2J training will be held on Tuesday-Thursday, 25-27 October, and then journalists will participate in the conference through Sunday, 30 October 2011.

The three-day J2J programme is designed for working journalists who want to increase their knowledge and skill at developing stories on lung health and related issues, including tuberculosis; TB/HIV; asthma, COPD and other non-communicable diseases; childhood pneumonia and tobacco control.  Participants will learn about these diseases, the extent and impact of the problems they present (including social, political and economic impacts) and the new research, solutions and innovations that are in the pipeline. The sessions will provide presentations and discussions with experts, as well as practical training in turning scientific information into effective print and broadcast stories.

Applications are sought from journalists working in any medium. Special attention will be given to applications from journalists in these countries/regions: India, Russia, Egypt, China, Peru and Africa. Up to 15 fellowships will be awarded, which will include conference registration, roundtrip air and train travel, hotel accommodation and per diem.

Applicants should have at least three years of professional journalism experience, including significant coverage of health topics. All J2J sessions will be in English, so proficient spoken and written English are essential.
